On audio languages, and why I prefer compilers

In my first article, I introduced the notion of “audio kit” as a generalization of the spirit of the AudioKit project, and discussed how AudioKit has failed to live up to that spirit in practice.

Here I want to talk a bit about software synthesis systems in general, why it's risky to create yet another one, and talk a bit about languages, interpreters and compilers.

Software audio synthesis systems

Wikipedia has a useful overview article about software audio synthesis "environments", which it defines as “an audio programming language (which may be graphical) and a user environment to design/run the language in” (emphasis added).
